1er álbum completo de esta banda brasileña que practica un furioso, salvaje y primitivo Black Metal con un sucio toque crusty que mantiene la esencia de los primeros álbumes de BATHORY. Todo amante de los primeros trabajos de Black/ Thrash/ Punk de Quorthon, amará esta banda!!
Giovane progetto solista proveniente dal Brasile, dietro al quale si nasconde il factotum Hades, Goat Worship esordisce sulla lunga distanza con questo “Blood And Steel” che già dall’artwork e dai titoli dei pezzi si rivela essere un aperto omaggio a Quorthon e alla sua creatura Bathory, la cui influenza sulla scena metal estrema continua a pesare come un macigno. E una volta inserito il cd nel lettore e premuto il tasto play (ammesso che siate dei dinosauri e, come il sottoscritto, utilizziate ancora queste modalità di ascolto), l’omaggio sembra avvicinarsi pericolosamente ai confini del plagio, tanto il black/thrash metal furioso, selvaggio e primitivo proposto dai Goat Worship è simile a quello inaugurato dai Bathory con l’omonimo album di debutto nell’ormai lontano 1984. E davvero non vi sarebbe molto altro da aggiungere dal momento che ogni ascoltatore medio dovrebbe conoscere come le proprie tasche questo genere di sonorità ed il buon Hades non si sforza più di tanto per metterci qualcosa di suo, limitandosi ad azzeccare qualche riff qua e là (apprezzabile in questo senso è soprattutto la conclusiva “Helheim”, che parte cadenzata e rocciosa e termina come una feroce e bellicosa cavalcata) e a fare continui, ed a parer mio anche abbastanza forzati, riferimenti alla mitologia nordica. Tra sferzate thrash old school e qualche sprazzo dal sapore leggermente più epico, il disco scorre via veloce ma senza particolari sussulti. “Blood And Steel” potrebbe piacere ai fans di Absu e Countess, oltre che naturalmente ai nostalgici di Quorthon (che potranno comunque sempre andarsi a riascoltare “The Return...” o “Under The Sign Of The Black Mark”): è un po’ poco ma così è se vi pare.
Von den beiden Black Metal-Bands mit dem Namen Goat Worship sind diese hier die Brasilianer und nicht die gleichnamigen Dänen, die zwischen 1992 und 1994 vier Demotapes veröffentlichten und sich danach wieder auflösten. Aber was heißt Band? Herr Hades ist der Einzelkämpfer dieses 2013 ins Leben gerufenen Projektes, welches nach der ersten EP „Doomsday“ aus dem Jahr 2013 nun mit dem Debüt aufwarten kann. Geboten wird wilder, räudiger Black-/Thrash Metal der alten Schule, mit simplen Riffs, polterndem Schlagzeug und hasserfülltem, kehligem Gesang. Vor allem ganz frühe Bathory kommen mir in den Sinn, aber auch Maniac Butcher, Dark Storm oder Nifelheim. Die Produktion klingt demomäßig, ist aber passend und voll beabsichtigt. Dazu ist das Album mit nicht einmal vierzig Minuten schön kurz und erinnert somit an Zeiten, als Alben noch kurz waren, um auf eine LP zu passen und das, ohne Lückenfüller auszukommen. Zwar ist Goat Worship nicht weltbewegend gut, erfüllt aber für das anzusprechende Publikum seinen Sinn und Zweck.
Hades heißt der einzige Mann hinter GOAT WORSHIP und nach einer EP aus 2015 ist nun das Debüt da. Es wird uns zwar Black Metal angekündigt, doch was nach dem Intro mit „Falklands War“ kommt, klingt etwas dumpfer, aber in der Aufmachung wie Kreator zu „Pleasure To Kill“ Tagen. Das ändert sich auch in „Hall of the Dead“ nicht, der Anfang ist zwar noch etwas stampfend, aber auch dann ist das Black / Thrash Metal der alten Schule. Auch wenn ich so stumpfes Getrümmer normalerweise mag, in Sachen Abwechslung merkt man spätestens bei „Cremation Funeral“, dass da etwas fehlt. Das muss auch Hades gemerkt haben, denn mit „Only the Strong Will Survive“ wird konsequent ins Mid Tempo heruntergeschaltet und es klingt nach 90'er Black Metal. Jedoch prügelt der „God of Thunder“ dann wieder erbarmungslos drauf und es kommt ein stumpfes Gehämmere aus den Boxen. Dem folgt „Goddess of Lust“, das zwar auch recht flott ist, aber nicht so derb knüppelt, sondern sich eher im hohen Up Tempo aufhält. „Religion of Lies“ hat bei mir sofort Erinnerungen an Venom heraufbeschworen, das Mid Tempo und das Break lasitge Spiel sprechen da Bände und am Ende steht mit „Helheim“ das mit über sechs Minuten längste Stück, das in Hälfte eins mehr in die doomig zähe Ecke geht, dann aber Black / Thrash von der Leine lässt.
Goat Worship are a band from Brazil that plays a black, thrash metal and crust punk and this is a review of their 2016 album "Blood And Steel" which was released by Xtreem Music.
Epic sounding keyboards start off the album and they bring in the atmosphere of a classic war film and after the intro the music goes into a very heavy and thrash influenced musical direction along with some high pitched black metal screams a few seconds later and they also add in a touch of the first wave style.
A great amount of crust elements can be heard throughout the recording and the music has a lot of 80's and 90's roots while also having a more modern take on the genre and the songs also bring in a great mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts and the faster sections of t he songs also bring in a decent amount of blast beats and when guitar solos and leads are utilized they remain true to an old school style of extreme metal and the riffs also bring in a small amount of morbid sounding melodies and all of the songs stick to a heavy musical style.
Goat Worship plays a musical style that takes old school black metal, thrash and crust punk and mixes them together to create a sound of their own, the production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover war, Norse Mythology and death themes.
In my opinion Goat Worship are a very great sounding mixture of black metal, thrash and crust punk and if you are a fan of those musical genres, you should check out this band. Recommended tracks include "Falklands War", "Only the Strong Will Survive" and "Helheim".
