Morbid Connection Through Flesh Comentario: 2º álbum de ésta banda finlandesa que practica una genial fusión de estilos de la vieja escuela del Death Metal finlandés y sueco que sin duda gustará a fans de bandas como GRAVE, ENTOMBED, BOLT THROWER, AUTOPSY, CARNAGE, VOMITORY... Voices From the Darkside Wbz (ger) 12.09.2015 I was first introduced to TORTURE PULSE through the debut full length "Plague Poetry". I remember it was a bit of a pain (at least for me) to find this record in LP format, but I wanted to appreciate the whole cover of the album that way. I heard some great things about this band, first spin I was sold, I really enjoyed the band, but that was back in 2010. 5 years have gone, and since 2014 I was wondering what was going on with TORTURE PULSE, they put out an EP last year but it was pretty much unknown to fans of the genre, so I thought that maybe they were planning a new album or just split up. Early this year, Xtreem Music announced the partnership with this Finnish folks, and a new album was in progress. I knew that was a great move right there, a label that is putting out great releases one after another now putting out a record of a great band that deserved more attention. "God Leash" is the band's second full length album, and let me tell you, they didn't miss. This is a solid slab of Finnish Death Metal with tons of groove, mid / slow sections and a great sounding production (not too polished, not too bright). Now let's talk about this great album that could be a contender for Top 10 Death Metal album of the year. "God Leash" is a step forward in the band's evolution, it feels more focused and straight to the point, sometime I felt "Plague Poetry" had some guitar sections that could have been shorten to make the songs sound more tight, this time they nailed it. The guitars lead the biggest part of the record, however the drums and bass make everything fall together with massive low vibe sometimes reminiscent to what CORPSESSED does. The blasting and slow sections goes hand in hand better than before, and the vocals are less raspy and more harsh. Also there are some dubs in the vocals that make the chorus sound killer (not sing along chorus but... you know what I mean). So all in all TORTURE PULSE managed to go a step further so I hope this band now get's the recognition that they deserve. You can pay a visit to their site and see / listen for yourself. Their sound's extremely reminiscent of early Swedish Death Metal (the irony of what I have just said is not lost on me). TORTURE PULSE is the brainchild of Kimmo(ex-MYTHOS), Jani (ex-BELIAL & IMPALED NAZARENE) and Petri (SCENT & PATHOS GAZETTE). Jani, unfortunately isn’t in the band anymore. They had their first practice in 2005 and have just celebrated their 10 year anniversary. “God Leashâ€� is their second full length album and the perfect way to celebrate such an anniversary. “God Leashâ€� is 41 minutes of bestial carnage. Even down to the song names, TORTURE PULSE really keep to their depraved theme. “Napalm To The Crossâ€�, “Plague Poetryâ€� and “Morbid Connection Through Fleshâ€� to name a few. Their opening song “Myths of Belial Incarnatedâ€� is killer. You’re greeted with a heavily down-tuned, groovy guitar riff with a heavy buzz, bringing to mind Swedish Death Metal veterans DISMEMBER. At first the buzzing guitar can be a little confusing, but it works extremely well and you become used to it after the first 30 seconds. “Burst of Black Bloodâ€� is a Death Metal masterpiece. The drum beat is perfection with smooth transitions. It shows that TORTURE PULSE can be very diverse and original, yet still follow in the footsteps of the classics, keeping Old School Death Metal alive. My favourite song from the album “Golgotha Revisitedâ€� if you ever needed a song to practice your windmilling to, this has to be it. The riff makes you want to charge into battle while still delivering your daily dose of blasphemy. The guitars are simple yet powerful and the savage vocals will blow your mind. Throughout its course, this album has a very “rawâ€� feel to it thanks to the production. It works so well, it makes the already brutal songs a lot more primitive and primordial. Overall, I think this album is remarkably deserving of the title “Masterpieceâ€�. This is Death Metal in its true form. TORTURE PULSE took from their influences, rinsed and recycled and produced an exceedingly brilliant album. If you’re a fan of the genre and don’t have this album in your music collection, you are really missing out. I’m already looking forward to their next release. Než se vůbec někam vydám, dlouho rozvažuji, poslouchám svůj Å¡estý smysl a zbytečně se nepouÅ¡tím do desek, o kterých vím, že by mě zase tolik nebavily. Tentokrát to bylo jiné. Klíče od podzemí mi předali přímo u Å¡panělského labelu Xtreem Music. Poslechl jsem si pár ukázek na vÅ¡emocném internetu, kapelu vyhodnotil jako moji krevní skupinu a pak už to Å¡lo samo. Vrata do předpeklí jsem otevíral s nadějí, obrovskou chutí a nadÅ¡ením. Stejně jako finÅ¡tí TORTURE PULSE. Vzory jako GRAVE, DISMEMBER, ENTRAILS, NIHILIST, ENTOMBED, ale i třeba AUTOPSY, BOLT THROWER máme stejné a tak bylo už od počátku patrné, že si sedneme jako pověstný zadek na hrnec. Už když jsem sestupoval po plesnivých schodech a bál se, že pod mojí váhou popraskají dřevěná prkna, tuÅ¡il jsem někde v následující tmě zlo. Bylo tam. Mocné, studené a zaútočilo na mě bez varování. Po stranách byly vyskládány stehenní kosti. Vždycky si říkám, koho asi nosily, kdo na nich běhal, která žena mezi nimi rodila. Nějak automaticky si je přiřazuji k lebkám, vyrovnaným v další místnosti. Tady nenaleznete žádné black metalové svíce, ani roztrhaná černá roucha doomových smutečních pochodů. Ve vzduchu se vznáší jen poctivý Å¡védský death metal. Ohlodaný až na morek, vylouhovaný z nekonečných nocí strávených poslechem těch nejslavnějších smeček stylu. Pokud bych pak měl kapelu připodobnit pro nás, severské fajnÅ¡mekry, tak bych lehce pohovořil i o jakési brutalitě, známé třeba u takových VOMITORY. Kapela do toho poprvé řízla už v roce 2005 a za dobu své existence vydala v roce 2010 dlouhohrající počin v podobě desky „Plague Poetry“. Sypu si popel na hlavu, protože tenkrát jsem TORTURE PULSE nezaznamenal. A to ani díky jejich dřívějšímu působení v heavy metalové formaci DELIVERANCE. Těch smeček je zkrátka moc a ani já, nadÅ¡enec, hledač a undergroundový slídil, jsem neměl o této skupině ani ponětí. Alespoň je stále co objevovat. Normální a vlastně i chtěné a kliÅ¡ovitě nutné by bylo, aby v dalším sklepení stál oltář, nějaké ty kalichy plné krve, něco málo černých hostií a obrácený krucifix. Nic takového tady není. Vidím jen několik kilo navzájem propletených pavučin, opuÅ¡těnou lavici a okovy, zapuÅ¡těné do zdi. V rohu stojí dřevěná miska, ze které asi občas pili nebožáci, kteří byli připravováni a čekající, až se sami stanou hromadou kostí. Při podobných deskách a výletech člověka napadají různé příběhy, rád si pak dohledávám i ve starých knihách, jak tomu asi bylo, ale nejdůležitější je pro mě ten stísněný pocit staré zatuchliny. Kytary žalují, zpěvák řve jako o život a k tomu jakoby v pozadí chřestí baskytara jako pytel plný těch nejvybranějších kostí. Vím, že to není nic nového, TORTURE PULSE pravděpodobně ocení jen pár podobně pomatených nadÅ¡enců jako já a sem tam nějaký ten hudební archeolog, ale to mi vůbec nebrání v tom zatančit si na imaginárních ostatcích naÅ¡ich death metalových předků poctivě a s chutí. Sus famosas saunas, la tierra de los mil lagos, Kimi Raikkonen, LORDI… para qué nos vamos a engañar, lo mejor que tiene ese país (aparte de un maravilloso sistema educativo y cívico) es su Death Metal, y desde luego esta banda de Oulu da buena muestra de que lo de los nórdicos con el Metal extremo es un idilio sin fin. SI hace poco comentaba ese discazo de AMPUTORY ahora toca el turno a TORTURE PULSE, mismo país, concepto distinto… calidad mayúscula. TORTURE PULSE ya contaba en su haber con otro larga duración previo y lo último que sacaron fue un EP titulado “Devilrootâ€�. Lo que hoy nos ocupa es su nuevo trabajo “God Leashâ€� editado igualmente por Xtreem Music. Lo que aquí nos encontramos no es más ni menos que Death Metal puro con un sonido brutal y de influencias suecas aunque con mucho aire finlandés. Me explico. El sonido es muy de la escuela de Estocolmo, y sus temas igualmente cuentan con riffs demoledores y típicos de esa zona. Sin embargo, os insto a que cambiéis de chip porque no, no son otro clon más de ENTOMBED con aires de DISMEMBER. Sí tienen un sonido característico de la ciudad de los Nobel (los premios, no el tabaco), pero cuentan con un macarreo sensacional el cual puede recordar a sus compatriotas IMPALED NAZARENE. La encarnación perfecta de a qué me refiero posdría ser, por ejemplo, “Myths Of Belial Incarnatedâ€� tema que abre el disco y que arranca con una contrapúa sacada del averno combinada con los ritmos punk/crust a lo MOTÖRHEAD de los nazarenos antes mencionados. TORTURE PULSE son pesados, contundentes y muy brutales. Es maravilloso ver como combinan tan bien los temas rápidos con blast beats pasando luego a otros más pesados y lentos muy en la onda de GRAVE, para, al siguiente tema, volver a desatar los infiernos al más puro estilo de unos VOMITORY. En cuanto al sonido, imperfectamente perfecto. ¿Que qué coño quiere decir eso? Fácil, “God Leashâ€� no suena a un batiburrillo caótico de riffs ruidosos de los cuales no se entiende nada, pero al mismo tiempo no suena a una ñoñada modernilla sobreproducida. “God Leashâ€� es sucio, es brutal, es gordo, es denso, suena como los álbums grabados analógicamente y de presupuesto ajustado en los Sunlight Studios. El equilibrio entre todos los instrumentos es perfecto. Una caja contundente que en ningún momento se come el sonido y un bombo demoledor que hará que se amorre el bafle de tu equipo de música. Unas guitarras afiladas como espadas bárbaras destripando un riff tras otro sin darte el más mínimo descanso. El bajo se oye y se integra perfectamente en el sonido, aportando una densidad cojonuda a la base rítmica. Y en cuanto a las voces, blasfemas como ellas solas, guardando un equilibrio bastante curioso entre guturalidad y psicopatía usando el tan querido recurso de dos voces para según qué estribillos. Si tuviera que desgranar los temas uno a uno esta reseña se eternizaría, así que me dedicaré a nombrar los temas que, aun y siendo todos muy buenos, han hecho que parta la mesa de mi escritorio de un cabezazo mientras escribía esta reseña escuchándolos. Aparte de la mencionada “Myths Of Belial Incarnatedâ€� que como todo tema que abre un disco impacta (o al menos debería) a la primera de cambio, me quedo con “On Lacerated Wingsâ€� y su pesadez y brutalidad a lo GRAVE; “Napalm To The Crossâ€� brutal, rápida y sádica en la onda de los mejores VOMITORY; “Plague Poetryâ€� la cual directamente es aplastante y “Golgotha Revisitedâ€� donde afloran más sus influencias a lo DISMEMBER. En definitiva y para acabar, TORTURE PULSE reúne en “God Leashâ€� las mejores cualidades del Death Sueco pero combinado con cierta macarrería de bandas finlandesas dándoles un toque distintivo y alejándolos afortunadamente de la mayoría de clones que pululan por ahí. Sé que es una edición de la propia Xtreem Music, sello al cual pertenece este portal, así que sois libres de creer lo que digo o interpretarlo como promoción descarada. Si es así, pues lo siento pot vosotros os perderéis un discazo. Si preferís fiaros de mis palabras, no lo dudéis, escuchadlo y haceros con él ya, puro Death Metal brutal y cabrón como él solo.
