Comentario:
Nuevo mini CD de esta legendaria banda finlandesa formados en los '80 y que practican un pesado y pegadizo Death Metal al estilo finlandés para amantes de bandas como FUNEBRE, PURTENANCE, CONVULSE, ABHORRENCE...
In one form or another and through three separate spells, Finnish death metal pioneers Necropsy have been chugging along!
Founded in 1987 as Anxiety, the band trundled onward until 1989 when they became the band they are today, Necropsy! The band called it a day in 1994 but only after an EP release, a split with Demigod and no less than seven demo’s. Then in 2008 they did what so many bands are doing these days, they returned. Three years later saw the release of their debut album entitled Bloodwork and then last year saw a compilation spawned of their earlier works! But 2013 also saw the unleashing of this release, a four track EP of volatile death metal savagery entitled Psychopath Next Door!
Released through Spanish label Xtreem Music, Psychopath Next Door rears its ugly head and breaths rancid flame into the world in the form of For the Blood and Guts, and so sixteen minutes of darkness and suffering begins with groove drenched old school riffs, thick guttural growls and a rampant drumming display, topped off by the steel like rumble of bass. Sporting an ominous foreboding sound when played at a slower pace, and a thundering cacophony when played at speed, Necropsy have lost none of their talent nor desire to create truly dark, evil death metal
Legendary Finnish deathsters, NECROPSY, have been quite busy lately. Since their reunion back in 2008 they have released their debut full-length “Bloodwork”, which was a long time coming but it was worth the wait, and they have also re-released through Century Media their entire demo collection in “Tomb of the Forgotten”. Now they are back again with a vengeance with the release of their newest EP entitled “Psychopath Next Door”.
The character of the band has not changed much and NECROPSY are still combining their proto-death metal with their thrash influences to their old-school Finnish Death Metal, giving us four songs full of brutality and anguish. The great vibe of the opening song, “For The Blood and Guts”, sees the band switching with ease between thrash moments and slower tempos in order to maximize the impact of the song. Their thrashy parts are destructive while their heavier parts are sounding fucking huge, and with those guitar leads… the band just cannot go wrong.
“Severed As They Are” follows the more mid-tempo groove of the band while the sickening guitar riffs are spreading horror as the deep vocals crush any hope. The guitar solos that dwell within this song are completely unreal and dazzling. And then there are times when NECROPSY while let their paranoia take over, as is the case with “Twist To Kill” and it’s devastating start. The riffs are fucking hellish to say the least, sounding absolutely brilliant and tying in with the face-melting solos, extending the nauseating boundaries of the band. The middle part of the song is brilliant for one simple reason: it will have you banging your head to their incredible groove relentlessly, while the ending sees the band taking on a towering posture and letting loose some of their heaviest riffs.
The title track, which is also the highlight of this EP, closes NECROPSY’s latest work. Once again with the band building a concrete solid groove and combining to that their catastrophic riffs and deranged leads there is no doubt that these guys still got what it takes. In the most aggressive moments of the track you can simply feel all that anger being focused at you for crying out loud.
If you did not realize it with “Bloodwork” then “The Psychopath Next Door” will make sure that you get the point that NECROPSY are trying to make: They are back and they are furious!
One of the oldest flag troopers for the Finnish Death Metal scene, NECROPSY, have been resurrected from the dead - and the "Psychopath Next Door" EP is the band's 2nd release since they collected their bones back together on "Bloodwork"; NECROPSY's debut full-length studio album that they released on a small Tritonus Records in 2011. Since then some doors were opened for NECROPSY a bit more even: Century Media Records wanted to release all the band's past demo + EP recordings in luxurious packages, both as 3-CD + 4-LP ("Tomb Of The Forgotten - The Complete Demo Recordings") in 2013, which obviously also helped to get NECROPSY's name a little bit back on people's dry lips again. This new 4-track EP, "Psychopath Next Door", basically counts on the same recipe that NECROPSY had adopted for the "Bloodwork" album. 4 songs of pure and relatively technical old school Death Metal is what NECROPSY bring us on "Psychopath Next Door", still sounding surprisingly hungry and enthusiastic enough as far as these four new songs are concerned. In other words, if you just have ever become familiar with the past stuff of this semi-legendary Finnish Death Metal bunch NECROPSY, you may already have a pretty good idea what to expect from them. 'Twist To Kill', the 3rd song off this EP, is perhaps the most progressive track NECROPSY have composed for a little while. The guitars especially have a nice twist to them, which they should consider doing a bit more with their future stuff, I think. Then again, there's nothing wrong with any of the EP's other 3 songs either. The title track of this teaser EP for NECROPSY's untitled 2nd full-length album for example - to be released sometime in 2014, offers an injection of heads-chopping Death Metal, the truest NECROPSY style. It's a good and respectable thing to notice NECROPSY haven't really changed much over these past years but stayed somewhat loyal to their original sound, and not giving a damn what people might think of them. So, in the meantime, get "Psychopath Next Door" for yourself 'til they have some new material available again.
Necropsy is back on track. The finnish death metalers started out doing just that, playing death metal the way it is supposed to be.
They where a part of the first wave of the findeath scene back in the early 90´s but lost it completely on their "comeback" album "Bloodwork" back in 2011.
Earlier this year Century Media compiled all their demo´s and splits from the bands early period in a mighty fine three disk set named "Tomb of the Forgotten" (read my review here)
Xtreem Records have since then signed on Necropsy to their roster and the first taste of "new" Necropsy come´s in the form of a mini cd called "Psychopath Next Door"
Four tracks of pummeling death metal with no intention to look back on previous material. This is a more modern Necropsy with well written material containing a lot of chugging and a grim growl that fits the music well. The technicality is (luckily) on the easy level so the musci flows well. The originality on the material is not all that but it works. You may think that you have heard some of the arrangements before but they are performed relentlessly and heavy as f**k and that is all that matters.
I´am not a big fan of EP´s (or in this case, MCD´s) because I dont think they contain enough material to really get into the groove of a band´s current status as musicians.
I like to have more than 4 tracks (17 minutes) to really get into the music but after 6-7 spins in a row "Psycopath Next Door" starts to settle in on me and like mentioned before, if you like your death metal done the traditional way without any surprises Necropsy is for you.
Looking forward to (hopefully) a full-length in the near future though.
