CRUSTACEAN [as in 'hard-shell'] are a 4-piece Thrash Metal band, that hails from the Metalcity Tilburg in the Netherlands. They play energetic and infectious thrash that is a must see for every neckshredding and wardancing Metalhead around the globe. They rely on a wicked rhythm-tandem that blasts out the tightest of beats and two metalizing guitar wizards that conjure up the most maniacal of riffs. Listening to this insane concoction of pure sonic evil gets everyone going. Straightforward songwriting is a vital ingredient in their tracks, yet steering way clear from outdated simplicity though; steadfast and stubborn they might be, their eyes and ears are aimed forward and that’s exactly where CRUSTACEAN are going! Even with its no-nonsense thrash approach CRUSTACEAN does seem to be able to reach out to non-metal music lovers as well. A thing they proved in their 20 year reign over the Dutch venues, with an undying passion they spew forth their tracks over the crowds, pummelling them and leaving them for dead. CRUSTACEAN – a guaranteed Thrashfest!
The foundation for CRUSTACEAN is laid in 1989 by JVI (drums) and NVZ (Bass). After 5 years of Crystal Lake, 1 demo, 2 rehearsal tapes, some gigs and plenty of disorder in their line-up they enter the Double Noise studio in Tilburg, Holland February of 1994. There they record their 2nd demo “Rip Off”. They want to ‘come clean’ in a sense, so they change their name into ‘CRUSTACEAN’. Smart move!! The following summer they’ appear on a local compilation-CD: “No Sleep ‘Til Burg”. The gigs that come out of it prove their raving metal to work really well live. This leads to a contract with the young ‘Double Noise Recordings’ for which they record a mini-CD called ‘Headcleaner’. This recording is released March 1995 and spawns heaps of positive reviews, airplay and interviews. This however, does not prohibit CRUSTACEAN from making a major change of course. A major line-up change follows. Their style, often compared to bands like ‘Death’ and ‘At the Gates’, makes way for the crude Slayer approach.
Dutch label ‘Teutonic Existence’ releases CRUSTACEAN’s first full length CD ‘Burden of Our Suffering’. This debut album ended up second place in Aardschok’s top 50! In 2000 Crustacean records the mini-CD “Satanized”, which is only released on the Internet. In April 2001 Crustacean record their second full-length album “Insaniac” at Harrow Productions. This album is released February 2003 on Cold Blood Industries. After a promotional tour CRUSTACEAN decides to lay low for a couple of years and concentrate on musical activities with other bands such as Travoltas, Illfame and of course Slayer Cover Band. In November 2006 the four members of Slayer Cover Band decide to startup thrashing machine CRUSTACEAN again, and so here we are about to release the next CRUSTACEAN CD, a neck breaker that will melt your stereo!
Finally, in 2010 CRUSTACEAN entered again Double Noise Studios to record their 3rd full length album, being later mastered at Fabrika 13 in Slovenia, achieving what’s undoubtely the best album of CRUSTACEAN. A deal was signed with Spanish label Xtreem Music for the release of “Greed, Tyranny & Sodomy” in June 2011.
