FUNEBRE were one of Finland's very first Death Metal bands together with Abhorrence (pre-AMORPHIS). Formed in Turku during '88, they were active until their split-up in 1991. During that time, the band released two demos, being the first one "Cranial Torment" ('89) from were two songs were taken for the 7"EP "Brainspoon" released in '90 released by german label Whisper in Darkness. In '90 the band released their second demo simply called "Demo '90" with a more mature sound according to their previous demo and showing the path for what would be their debut album.
In 1991, "Children of the Scorn" was the band's only album originally released on CD & 12"LP formats by Spinefarm and which was recorded by a very young Timo Tolkki (STRATOVARIUS) as producer, which most probably was the responsible of the weak sound of this album, giving it a quite thin & clean sound compared to the band's earliest efforts. Still with this, FUNEBRE managed to create a unique style of Death Metal blending influences form very early PARADISE LOST with more brutal and weird riffing and song structures. Unfotrunately, and just like most of finnish bands at the time, they didn't last for too long and few months after the release of the album, FUNEBRE called its quits
In 2004, Xtreem Music rescued this album from the vault and re-issued this gem with remastered sound and adding the band's two demos as bonus accompanied with a new artwork somehow based on the original one. FUNEBRE was definitely one of the bigegst exponents of the early 90's finnish Death Metal scene together with bands like AMORPHIS, DEMIGOD, SENTENCED, DEMILICH, DISGRACE, PHLEGETHON, MORDICUS, ADRAMELECH and many others.
