In early 2005, four long time friends came together to form a band that would revive the spirit held by the founders of Death Metal. They wanted to create music that embodied the same sound and ideals of bands such as Morgoth, Autopsy, Nihilist, Dismember and Asphyx. Those early days were unspoiled times of Metal, Unity, Beers, Headbanging and Friendship and in their opinion the fun and camaraderie had gone out of both the music and the scene in general. Time and Bands had moved on ever since the early years of Death Metal, but Band-Founder Götz Vogelsang was stuck in time and never had forsaken the early years when Death Metal was a dark and morbid art. DEATHEVOKATION wanted to bring those feelings back, play the music their fan-hearts both longed for and missed the most and stand alongside other bands such as Pentacle, Kaamos, Nominon and Lie in Ruins to act as a bastion against the current trends of competition between musicians about who can blast the fastest or who can play the most technically challenging riffs. Taking their name from the first song on Dismember’s 1988 demo, DEATHEVOKATION was born.
Götz Vogelsang (guitar, vocals) got Brian Shuff ( lead guitar) on board early on and within days they were joined by two of their old friends, namely Tushant Bonner on drums and Steven Nelson on bass. Steven is already well known in the Underground for his work with Noctuary and Winterthrall. In early 2006 Tushant was replaced by Scott Ellis on drums, another good friend of Götz’s. Drawing on influences from only the early 1990s, but mostly from Unleashed, Asphyx and Bolt Thrower, DEATHEVOKATION released their “Blood” Demo in 2005 and shortly after received an offer by Xtreem Music from Spain. Götz, having been a huge fan of Dave Rotten’s work both as a label owner and musician for over a decade, quickly forgot about his plans of only releasing demos for friends and made Xtreem DEATHEVOKATION’s new home. Xtreem Music, according to Götz, is a label that understands their philosophy of wanting to resurrect the old spirit of being ‘from Fans, for Fans’.
