Moondark was formed a cold and dark winter night in the beginning of 1993 by Johan Jansson (Interment, ex-Demonical, Dellamorte...) and Kennet Englund (Interment, ex-Uncanny, Centinex, Dellamorte...) when they rehearsed covers of Crypt Of Kerberos, Eternal Darkness and Bolt Thrower etc. In the beginning Johan played guitar because he created mostly of the songs in Moondark and Kennet played drums. Then Mattias Norrman (ex-Katatonia, Dellamorte, Subdive...) joined on guitar and Mats "Mabbe" Berggren (ex-Fulmination, Entrails) joined on bass and vocals. After some rehearsals when the songs took shape Johan and Kennet switched instruments.
In the end of August 1993 Moondark entered Soundline Studios in Avesta and recorded 7 songs and it was engineered & mixed by Per Samuelsson and Moondark. The demo was simply named "Demo#1" and was supposed to be sent to labels for a record deal but unfortunately that didn’t happen because of laziness. The tape was just home printed in a couple of copies and was only given away to some friends...
Moondark played live once at Musikhuset in Avesta 1st October 1993 together with Uncanny & Greedkick. The concert was caught on video and it still remains on the classic format Vhs. After the show Moondark was laid down to rest forever and the members continued with their other bands and projects...
Thanks to Dreamtide Music (Swe) the recording, entitled "The Shadowpath", was finally released 14 years later on CD in January 2007. No Colors Records (Ger) released the Digipack CD and Temple Of Darkness (Spa) released it on LP the same year.
In 2014 Moondark did their first live appearance since 1993 and their second gig ever, on the last funeral edition of Kill Town Death Fest at Ungdomshuset, Copenhagen in Denmark with success. The lineup were including Kennet, Mattias and Johan with the new members Allan Lundholm (Interment) on bass and Alexander Högbom (Volturyon, Spazmodic, Centinex, October Tide etc…) on growls.
A bunch of new riffs and songs have been in the works for many years now and hopefully a second album will be out in the near future…
