Comment:
Stunning debut album of this spanish Thrash Metal band. Aggressive, tight and intense stuff for lovers of SLAYER/SEPULTURA (Arise)/TESTAMENT with an awesome vocalist that will make you shit your pants!! If you don't love this album, you're not a thrasher!!
I don’t know about you, but seeing this album’s cover immediately made me curious. Together with the band logo it also gives you an idea of what kind of music you can expect; something extreme, that’s for sure!
Okay then, let’s give it a try! And YES, after a short intro the Spaniards of Death Over Threat burst out into a thrash heaven (or is it hell?). Although the music more or less catches you right away, I had to get used to the diversion between the aggressive and cleaning singing. But once you get the taste of it there is simply no way back and you will find yourself head banging for a good fifty minutes. If you want to get a alight idea of what you can expect, you can think a bit of the sound of Testament’s ‘The Gathering’, with traces from Slayer, Sadus, Sepultura (in the ‘Beneath The Remains’ and ‘Arise’ era) and the latter work of Death, in a modern armour. But Death Over Threat does not copy any of these giants for a second and comes up with a sound of its own.
With the in the abovementioned influences in mind, you can of course guess that the music is extremely catchy. The excellent instrumental skills and the tight playing of these gentlemen of course have a great influence on that as well. Although the album knows a healthy dose of speed and aggression, there is enough room for melodies and variety and thereby ‘Sangre’ (Spanish for “blood”) is assured not to become dull or weaken for a second. The production deserves a word of compliment as well, because the album has a modern sound without any consequences for the spontaneity of the music. Thereby the band also distinguishes itself from many modern, digitalised colleague bands.
‘Sangre’ is without doubt one of the best thrash releases of the year and if you keep in mind that this is the band’s debut album, they have deserved a spot in my annual top-list. With Death Over Threat thrashers have gotten another great band.
