2nd album by this spanish band. A fucking addictive work that will hook you with their evil and nasty songs that blends in equal parts, elements of Black, Thrash and Death with a strong Punk stench. This stuff is suitable for every lover of bands like SODOM "In the Sign of Evil", TOXIC HOLOCAUST, very early ONSLAUGHT, DISCHARGE, MIDNIGHT, early SARCOFAGO…
This three-piece from the region of Catalonia in Spain somehow raises certain expectations with their first release for Xtreem Music. Honestly, the title “666 Bastards” really says: MOTÖRHEAD on Black Metal, played or better spat out by three (of course!) maniacs! And you get that, somehow... Well, maybe not exactly MOTÖRHEAD, except for that cultivated “Fuck Off!” gesture of the early days of Lemmy. It's much more a distinct Punk attitude that's very defining for the sound of CENDRA. And if I say Punk, I mean P.U.N.K.! Snotty, belligerent and always a middle finger in the air! Maybe the title of the opener 'Satànic D-Beat' characterizes CENDRA best, but the following 'Argh!!!' does the same. And I honestly think the band's mantra song is 'Sang, Suor I Alcohol' (Spanish for 'Blood, Sweat And Alcohol'), since it was also the name of CENDRA's first album. So, it's clear that we can neither expect pieces of skill nor a little bit of mercy, but some fine music to dance pogo to with the fist raised high in the air. Or the middle finger. Or the devil horns... When I listen to “666 Bastards”, I always have to think of INEPSY, since their forward driving punked up and blackened Street Metal has a very similar feeling. Yes, this album won't appeal to the sophisticate, but it's not made for those anyway. “666 Bastards” is made for Metalheads like me, who love it raw and simple and dig fine Punk as well. Like-minded guys check CENDRA.
La formación catalana de black/punk metal Cendra puso el pasado enero en circulación a través de Xtreem Music el segundo álbum de su trayectoria, sucesor de Sang, Suor i Alcohol, publicado en 2013.
Formada en 2009 en Sabadell e integrada en la actualidad por Joey (batería/voz), Agressor (bajo) y Malparit (guitarra), Cendra apuesta por la fusión de influencias procedentes de bandas como Mayhem, Venom, Bathory, Hellhammer, The Exploited y G.B.H.
666 Bastards es un álbum de vértices ponzoñosos en los que la recurrencia rítmica de la guitarra domina canciones como “Satànic D-Beat”, “Argh!!!!”, “666 Bastards”, “Mort”, “Dalla” o “Cementiri Rocker”, todas fundamentadas en un mismo patrón estilístico y con crudas baterías y voces desquiciantes como apoyos fundamentales para adquirir un personalidad definida de la que sobresalen los rasgos del punk más devastador y la brusquedad primigenia del black metal.
Un trabajo visceral para amantes de los ritmos desaforados desprendidos de cualquier atisbo de delicadeza.
Estaba necesitando que surgiese una banda de estas características, desde que los grandes DISHAMMER dejaron este negocio, se hacía necesario una banda de Metal Punk con las características y la personalidad de esta banda.
Parece ser que este trabajo es el segundo trabajo de esta formación de Sabadell después de su fantasmal “Sang, Suor i Alcohol”, de cualquier modo, estamos ante un lanzamiento brillantísimo del sello Xtreem Music. Lo que este trío ejecuta con absoluta devoción es Metal Punk con grandes influencias del Black/ Thrash Metal genético, y aquí es donde iniciamos el repertorio de halagos, ya que, a mi por lo menos, no me resulta fácil establecerle una comparación nítida y clara con otras formaciones de similar estilo y mas trayectoria; si, tienen sus referencias y sus reminiscencias que las puedes llamar ONSLAUGHT (vetustos) o BULLDOZER, pero yo creo que CENDRA suena a CENDRA y eso en el primer disco.
Doce temas… doce temas que suenan al sabor que tiene el orujo de 70º, doce temas que cuando les escuchas sientes como la adrenalina anega tu sangre, de esos temas que están pensados para que sacudas tu cabeza aplastando con ella todos los problemas que puedas tener en ese momento; doce temas llenos de carisma, violencia, ferocidad y convicción. No hace falta destacar el buen trabajo que Javi Bastard ha hecho en la producción: sonido hiriente y crudo. Si es importante destacar el trabajo de composición de esta banda, porque si bien es cierto que es una banda de Metal Punk, también es cierto que muestran preocupación por el cambio de ritmo y los matices. Tampoco es de olvidar el trabajo de ejecución, que es realmente compacto, aunque sí que me parece que el trabajo y la sonoridad que aporta el bajista es un verdadero armazón en el que se sustenta el sonido CENDRA. Atención también a la intensidad de Joey en las baquetas, que además se encarga de reverberar su voz y otorgar a CENDRA ese punto cavernoso y críptico.
Destaco tres temas que quizá, en mi opinión, demuestran la intensidad y capacidad compositiva que aporta CENDRA en este trabajo: “Dalla”, “Cementeri Rocker” y la genial “Sang, Suor I Alcohol”.
Banda de fantástico presente y, si no pierden el norte o pierden la motivación, excelente futuro.
