Official-reissue of the oldest and most brutal stuff from '89/'90 by this mythic french band. Includes the mini CD "Sultry Obsession" ('90), the demo "Official Rehearsal" ('90) and the stuff recorded under their previous monicker of ETSICROXE, the demo "Haunted" ('89) and a 9-song show from '89. A total of 20 songs presented in the purest old school layout with liner notes, exclusive interview, photos, flyers, covers... Cult stuff!!
Ahhh SUPURATION... Those were the good times! Along with PUTRID OFFAL, MASSACRA and AGGRESSOR these were the very first European extreme Metal bands that I started worshiping back in the late 80s / early 90s. They were untouchable at the time and bands like these left an undeniable mark on me as a teenager. Revisiting the material after all these years is definitely a blast. Whoever listens to these songs for the first time now would never understand the sweat, tears, snail mail postage, normal bias tapes and unrelenting enjoyment that these songs actually meant back in the day they were released. This band was a radical blow to the scene at the time, not only because of their elephant-like heaviness but also due to the craziness, just think about it, Death Metal was at its pinnacle at the time and SUPURATION stumbles into the scene with their gruesome songs including keyboard passages and weird song structures! Obviously this generated some reactions, many hated them, in my case I fell in love with the whole thing instantaneously! The music contained here is their best, nothing more nothing less! The CD includes the band’s awesome self-financed debut mini CD "Sultry Obsession" (’90), their only demo "Official Rehearsal" (’90) as well as the impossible-to-find demo of the band’s very 1st studio recording "Haunted" under their previous monicker ETSICROXE as well as a 9-song live show, both from ’89. Remastered sound and packed in a total old-fashioned layout, 12-pages booklet featuring an exclusive interview, liner notes and tons of old photos and flyers. Get this now or be a poser forever!
SUPURATION vuelve a la palestra esta vez con lo primero de lo primero, toda su gestación musical incluida en un solo CD, como si de un engendro malévolo incubado dentro del vientre materno se tratara. Un útero infestado de Death/Thrash rabioso y maléfico, hambriento y obsesivo, supurante como una infección imparable e insalubre, nociva para la salud de tus oídos, pero maravillosa y esplendida para los que realmente han probado de su flujo.
Larga, extensa y variada es la trayectoria de SUPURATION, siempre rondando por los géneros más extremados y sombríos, desde el Thrash/Death de sus comienzos cuando aún se llamaban ETSICROXE y partiendo de esta matriz, donde sus influencias son claras y rotundas, dejando patente el sello de grupos que por la época eran punteros y novedosos, que crearon escuela (unos primigenios MASSACRA, DEATH y SEPULTURA), hasta sus evoluciones más dispares como las andanzas por terrenos Doom y Gothic.
Nadie niega la capacidad compositiva de SUPURATION, su despliegue de innovación y singularidad, una continua alternancia en cuanto a creaciones maestras dentro de sus diferentes etapas compositivas. Una vez más las “Xtreem Cult Series” nos vuelven a sorprender, con la calidad que las diferencia. Esta vez ha tocado en Francia (país de origen de SUPURATION, para quien no lo sepa), el país del amor, el vino, el buen comer y los precios desorbitados (por no hablar de los suburbios periféricos de las grandes urbes, los altos índices de paro, marginación y el hambre que padecen las clases sociales bajas, como ocurre en todos los países supuestamente civilizados, pero esas diligencias las dejaremos para otros momentos).
Lo que nos vamos a encontrar concretamente en “Back From The Crematory (Compilation 2011)”, que es lo que nos interesa, es su Mini CD de Octubre de 1990 “Sultry Obsession” (tracks 1-3), la Demo de Junio de 1990 “Official Rehearsal” (tracks 4-7), estas dos bajo el nombre de SUPURATION. La Demo “Haunted” de Agosto de 1989 (tracks 8-11) y su primera grabación en directo “Live at Avesnes lez Aubert” del 9 de Diciembre de 1989 (tracks 12-20), grabación que por cierto tiene un sonido más que aceptable, siempre contando con los medios que hubo por aquel entonces y del año en que partimos, estas dos últimas grabaciones son bajo la denominación de ETSICROXE.
Yo personalmente me quedo con “Sultry Obsession” y “Live at Avesnes lez Aubert”, aunque lo demás es muy loable y bueno, en estos dos ejemplos queda más que patente el potencial de SUPURATION, su dominio absoluto y su calidad tanto en estudio como en directo, te hace ver y oír su música de forma diferente, como realmente es.
